Primarily a creation of King Louis XIV of France, Versailles is a unique city that reflects the charm and grandeur of 17th century France. Dominated by the Chateau of Versailles - the palace in which the monarch held his court - Versailles is a magical place in which time seems to have stood still. The lure of the city brings millions of tourists from all over the world to visit it every year, as well as attracting French property buyers to the area.
Versailles is essentially divided into three sectors. Immediately outside the Chateau is the Quartier Notre Dame. Recognised as the true heart of Versailles, the Quartier Notre Dame is a blueprint for town planning all over the world. It was the first area to be constructed using the 'octagonal' town plan - a model that was later adopted in many towns across the globe. The Quartier Saint Louis stands next to the Notre Dame area of the city. This is a later extension to Versailles. It was built in the 18th century and spreads out from around the magnificent cathedral.
The area of Quartier Montreuil is located furthest away from the Chateau. This was originally a small village that was absorbed into Versailles in 1787. It is here where many French property hunters interested in buying Versailles property tend to concentrate their search. The area is awash with Versailles property dating back several centuries. These include luxury apartments and grand renaissance-style homes. On the outskirts of Versailles, buyers could find their dream villa in France in regal surroundings.
