The city of Tours occupies a prime position in the Loire Valley between Angers and Orleans. The centre of the city is actually on an island, separated on one side by the Loire River and on the other side by the Cher River, both of which meet downstream near the village of Villandry. Famous as the city in which the purest form of French is spoken, Tours is the gateway to some of the most prestigious French property in the Loire Valley.
Tours has a rich and regal heritage. It was an important centre for French royalty in the 15th and 16th centuries, and provides a glimpse back in time through its medieval town centre - Place Plumereau - where beautiful half-timbered Tours property and idyllic courtyards can be found. The area is also well known for its chateaux, most of which are open to the public. Just to the south-west of Tours is the Chateau d'Usse - a fairy-tale chateau on the edge of a forest that is known in the tourist guides as Sleeping Beauty's castle.
Tours property for sale in the city itself is quite varied. A basic studio apartment in the south of the city can be acquired for less than 30,000 euros, while a 5-bed classic stone property in a desirable area of the city can be purchased for around 150,000 euros. Looking further afield there is some exquisite French property to be found near the Foret de Chinon to the south-west of the city and also along the Loire and Cher Valley to the east. A 4-bed rural villa in France between Tours and Amboise on the edge of the Foret d'Amboise can be purchased for around 300,000 euros.
