Toulon is the most southerly city in the Var. It stands together with Hyeres on the coast between Marseille and St Tropez, and is protected by a headland that juts out into the Mediterranean to the west. Popular with tourists who come here for the white sandy beaches and raft of water sports activities, Toulon is of interest to French property hunters too - especially those who are looking for an idyllic villa in France along the south coast.
There are three airports within easy reach of Toulon. The closest airport is at Hyeres a few miles to the east of Toulon. This is the primary airport that serves the area. Close by is the international airport at Marseille, while the international airport at Nice is only some 90 minutes away. Toulon also operates a ferry service to the island of Corsica. The service normally calls at the two main ferry ports on Corsica - Ajaccio and Bastia.
The coastal strip along Toulon is made of a series of sandy coves. To the rear of the beach, the land slopes ever so gently upwards to reveal hotels, apartments and villas between much greenery.
