Saint Nazaire is a coastal town in the Loire Atlantique in Western Loire. It stands on both sides of the Loire River estuary, where the Loire River meets the Atlantic Ocean. The fabulous St Nazaire bridge with its red and white striped pinnacle structures, spans the estuary and provides easy road access to both sides. All in all, Saint Nazaire and the surrounding area has a lot to offer prospective buyers of French property.
Saint Nazaire itself is a town with a rich maritime history. Through the 19th century Saint Nazaire became famous for the construction of ships. More than 100 ocean-going vessels have been built at Saint Nazaire since 1862. During World War II, Saint Nazaire was also used by the German occupation for its submarine base, and so became an important target for allied bombers.
French property in Saint Nazaire town is widely available. Most types of Saint Nazaire property are of a modern construction, and include houses, apartments and villas within the residential areas of the town. On the outskirts of Saint Nazaire though, more exclusive types of Saint Nazaire property can be found. Areas in which to search for that ideal villa in France could be further up along the Loire estuary. The village of Paimbouef is worth consideration, as are the other hamlets along the Loire Valley towards the city of Nantes.
To the north of Saint Nazaire is the wonderful Parc Naturel Regional De Briere and its canal system, around which are some picture-postcard villages and hamlets. Along the coast to the west is La Baule and le Croisic - both excellent coastal areas in which to search for that dream French property investment.
