The city of Rouen is located midway between Paris and Le Havre on the meandering River Seine. It is the regional capital of Upper Normandy, and is the gateway to some of Normandy's most treasured forests. The city is easily accessible by road from the ferry terminals at Dieppe and Le Havre and is also supported by a regional airport, making the countryside around Rouen a target for French property buyers from the UK and other parts of Europe.
The city of Rouen has much to offer visitors and prospective French property buyers. There is a wealth of historical monuments to see in and around the city, including the famous Rouen Cathedral. The city has excellent shopping facilities and an events calendar that is always packed full with delights from music and arts festivals to the Rouen International Fair. It is a city that is firmly on the city breaks map, being very picturesque, especially to the south and west where the only separation between the city and the forest is the River Seine.
Rouen property is very affordable, especially when compared to somewhere like Dieppe. A 3-bed Norman-style Rouen property in the suburbs of Rouen close to the river and forest will cost in the region of 180,000 euros to 200,000 euros. A large 6-bed villa in France on the edge of the forest was recently available for 365,000 euros.
Out in the countryside the area between Rouen and Dieppe yields some wonderful rural French property. More beautiful French homes can be found by following the meandering river out towards Le Havre. This brings you into the huge natural park of Seine Normandie - another excellent location in which to search for that dream French home.
