The nautical town of Rochefort is nestled within a meander of the Charente River in the Charente Maritime, Western France. The town is famous for the "Hermione", which set sail from Rochefort in 1780 to assist the American colonists fight the War of Independence against the British. Today, the Hermione naval frigate is being rebuilt in Rochefort, and is just one of the many attractions that bring tourists and prospective French property buyers to the town.
