Paris Property : Villas, Gites & Apartments

The city of Paris is a collage of experiences from which different people take away different things. To some, the City of Light is a breathtaking roller coaster ride through art and culture that shook the world. To others, Paris is a city of romance where slow walks by the meandering River Seine are affairs never to be forgotten. Many come to experience the famous cuisine or to marvel at the city's extravagant bridges and beautiful gardens. But, whatever the reason for visiting Paris, it is easy to become hooked until you end up buying French property in this, the most elegant of cities in Western Europe.

Paris is essentially a self-contained administrative department in France. Known as Ville de Paris (75) it is sub-divided into 20 separate districts called arrondissements, all of which have their own mayor. As you would expect in any city, some of the districts are much sought-after areas to live in while others are a big 'no-no' in terms of buying Paris property. The Marais and Montmatre areas for example are currently very popular with foreign property buyers, and both are firmly on the tourist route. With demand for rental property permanently high in Paris, especially close to the central attractions, the Marais and Montmatre could make for excellent locations in which to purchase buy-to-let Paris property.

Property in Ile St Louis (home to Notre Dame cathedral) and Ile de la Cite are of course in high demand too, situated as these two areas are on islands on the River Seine and connected to the mainland by extravagant bridges. Close by on the River Gauche side of Paris is the trendier side of the city. Here, in districts 5, 6 and 7 there are some wonderful contemporary apartments available. Prices for a one-bed apartment in these districts are currently hovering around the 150,000 euros mark.

Other stylish areas in which to consider buying Paris property are located to the west of the city centre. Here, buyers will find some quite exclusive properties in neo-classical designs. Districts 7, 8 and 16 are quieter areas offering quality residential properties. To the east of the city, parts of district 11 offer quality apartments at reasonable prices too.

If you're looking to buy a villa in France, districts 19 and 20 to the far north-east of the city are worth consideration. Also, there are prestige villas to be found in the surrounding departments of Ile de France outside of the main city boundary. Yvelines to the south-west of the city for instance offers some exclusive French property for sale near Versailles and in other areas along the River Seine.
