The department of Orne is located in Basse Normandy in Northern France. It is the most southern part of Normandy, and offers a spectacular landscape that takes in hills, forests, rivers and valleys. Orne in fact has the most diverse landscape in all of Normandy, making it the most popular Normandy department in which foreigners buy French property.
Widely regarded as Normandy heartland where visitors can experience 'true Normandy', Orne has many wonderful places in which to begin the search for French property. Traditional Norman-style half-timbered homes are not in short supply here, and there is also a wealth of other Orne property types to choose from, including farmhouses set on acres of woodland, idyllic cottages in picture-postcard villages and restored watermills on the many rivers that criss-cross the department.
A popular countryside location that is worth consideration when buying Orne property is the area between Vimoutiers and Mortagne au Perche in the east of the region. Here, you'll find the Normandy countryside at its most spectacular. The Foret D'Ecouves to the north of Alencon and the counrtyside to the south of Argentan are also very beautiful.
Land on which to build that dream villa in France is readily available in the Orne countryside too. Building plots near the village of Gace were recently on the market for between 15,000 euros and 25,000 euros.
