The city of Orleans is situated in Central Northern France some 125kms south of Paris in the department of Loiret. It straddles the mighty Loire at the river's most northerly point and is sandwiched in-between two vast areas of woodland, one of which is the prestigious Foret d'Orleans that arcs out to the north and east of the city. Orleans is to all intents and purposes the gateway to the Loire Valley from Paris. This makes the city a popular starting point for French property hunters who are looking for an idyllic villa in France along the Valley towards Blois and Tours.
The city of Orleans has been assured of its place in the history books ever since May 1429. It was then that Joan of Arc rode from Blois to lead the French to victory over the English forces that had besieged Orleans. Every year, the liberation of Orleans under Joan of Arc is commemorated here between 29 April and 8 May, when a full military parade and procession takes place through the city streets.
There is a good selection of Orleans property in the city itself, including many prestige homes and character Orleans property dating back several centuries. Olivet to the south of Orleans is a much sought-after district in which to buy French property. Here, a 6-bed luxury home with grounds of 20,000m2 - just one of many such properties - was recently on the market for 750,000 euros.
