The town of Montelimar is situated in the mid-section of the Rhone valley in the department of Drome. Its position is right on the Rhone River between Valence and Avignon in one of the narrowest parts of the Rhone Valley. Montelimar is the home of nougat. The confectionery has been produced in the town since the 17th century, using locally grown almonds and honey from Provence.
