Mont Saint Michel is a small islet located just off the northern shore of France in the extreme west of the Normandy region. It is essentially a mount that is dominated by a 13th century Benedictine Abbey and Church, surrounded at lower levels by small houses, shops and other types of French property. Mont Saint Michel is without doubt one of the main tourist attractions along the north-west coast of France, and welcomes huge crowds of people to its narrow winding streets every year.
Given the large annual influx of visitors to the area, French property in this region offers Mont Saint Michel property buyers an excellent opportunity to service the short-term tourist rental market. Mont Saint Michel will obviously be the main attraction, but there is also some stunning countryside to be found a short distance away in both Brittany and Normandy. Property prices close to Mont Saint Michel are fairly reasonable too - a 5-bed villa in France in a rural location between Mont Saint Michel and Pontorson was recently on the market for 150,000 euros.
For the more adventurous property buyer there are opportunities, albeit very occasional opportunities, to own property on the Mont itself. Mont Saint Michel property for sale on the Mont is rare, and when such property does become available it is often at a premium price. More abundant but less expensive property purchasing opportunities that would yield good rental returns are to be found around the Mont Saint Michel Bay between Cancale in Brittany and Avranches in Normandy.
