The city of Marseille resides on the Mediterranean coast overlooking the Gulf of Lions in Bouches du Rhone. Voted in 2003 as the most enjoyable place to live in France, Marseille has seen a revival in interest from foreign property buyers looking for French property investments in the city. Marseille property prices though are unstable, with recent years seeing record property price increases in some areas of the city.
Vieux Port and Quai du Port overlooking the harbour and marina are excellent places to start your search for Marseille property. Both offer classic waterfront apartments and villas from modern to mock-renaissance styles in elevated positions above the waterfront. Marseille property prices in these areas though are quite steep - a 2-bed apartment costing in the region of 190,000 euros.
Further into the heart of the city, prices become less expensive. The Le Panier district, which is situated immediately behind Quai du Port, yields 2-bed apartments for as low as 110,000 euros. This district is quiet and is packed full of architectural gems...perhaps not surprising, as it is the oldest part of Marseille.
The area along Prado and Plage du Prado provides French property buyers with the opportunity to find beachfront property, while a little further out along the south coast road is the small Mediterranean town of Cassis. Here, beautiful villas and houses with pastel coloured facades crowd around the yachting marina and beachfront in a small natural cove. It is an ideal location in which to buy a villa in France overlooking the Mediterranean Sea that is only a short drive away from the modern conveniences of a big city.
