The Luberon region of Provence is currently a hotspot for French property investment. Located in the south of the Vaucluse, the Luberon's soft Mediterranean climate and colourful landscape makes it a much sought-after area in which to buy a secluded villa in France set amongst the undulating hills of lavender and deep azure skies above. Seen by many as the 'real Provence', the Luberon was made a regional park in 1977 and takes in the Montagne du Luberon mountain range that runs west to east along the spine of the park. There are also several medieval villages in the Luberon area, as well as the River Durance that skirts its southern limits.
The town of Apt is the largest settlement in the Luberon area. It is situated on the main N100 road that runs east from Avignon. Apt is a functional market town, whose main attraction lies is in the old town centre where narrow streets wind their way past medieval Luberon property. Off the N100 road towards the Montagne du Luberon is where visitors will find a score of medieval villages hidden amongst the trees on the hillside. Oppéde-le-Vieux at the western end of the Montagne du Luberon, is one such village. The village is renowned for its restored Luberon property, some of which occasionally becomes available to purchase as private residences.
Gordes on the northern side of the N100 is another excellent location in which to buy French property. The village stands high up on a rocky outcrop, its sandy coloured buildings clinging to the rock face that towers above the green valley below. Many consider Gordes to be the most beautiful village in France. It is certainly one of the most visited villages in the Luberon, opening up rental possibilities for those who are considering buying property in Gordes.
