The Loire Atlantique is situated in Central Western France. It is the westernmost department of the Western Loire region, and is a very popular destination for tourists and foreigners looking to buy French property in a scenic corner of France.
The Loire Atlantique takes its name from the merger of two great water systems that affect the area - The Loire River and the mighty Atlantic Ocean. Its proximity to the ocean in fact makes this area of France one of the most temperate in the country. Summers are warm, but never stiflingly hot; winters are mild and sometimes quite wet. Very rarely does the Loire Atlantique experience the weather extremes of some of its more eastern neighbours.
For tourists and potential French property buyers, the Loire Atlantique offers a diverse wealth of opportunities. Along its awe-inspiring stretch of coastline are some quite exquisite places in which to buy a villa in France. In the north of the department is the seaside town of La Baule, which is famed for its vast beaches and is a perfect area in which to buy Loire Atlantique property for personal use or rental. Historic St Nazaire at the mouth of the Loire estuary and the popular seaside resort of Pornic overlooking Bourgneuf Bay reside along the Loire Atlantique coastline too.
The jewel in the crown of the Loire Atlantique coastline though is found south of Pornic between Ile De Noirmoutier and Les Sables D'Olonne. Here, small towns and villages lie between stretches of coastal forest, offering a truly dramatic view of what has become known as the Cote de Lumiere - the Coast of Light. Along this stretch, Loire Atlantique property is much in demand in the villages of St Jean de Monts, Croix de Vie and Les Sables D'Olonne itself. Further inland, the cities of La Roche sur Yon and elegant Nantes are both popular with tourists and property buyers too.
