The Loire Atlantique is situated in Central Western France. It is the westernmost department of the Western Loire region, and is a very popular destination for tourists and foreigners looking to buy French property in a scenic corner of France.
The Loire Atlantique takes its name from the merger of two great water systems that affect the area - The Loire River and the mighty Atlantic Ocean. Its proximity to the ocean in fact makes this area of France one of the most temperate in the country. Summers are warm, but never stiflingly hot; winters are mild and sometimes quite wet. Very rarely does the Loire Atlantique experience the weather extremes of some of its more eastern neighbours.
