The city of Lille is located in Northeast France, close to the Belgian border. Capital for European Culture in 2004, the city is viewed as being at the heart of Europe. Brussels is less than an hour away, while Paris, London, The Netherlands and Germany are all between an hour and two hours away by road. Lille is also well-connected by rail and air. The Eurostar line stops in the city on its way to Brussels, and there is an international airport situated to the south of the city. All in all, Lille's accessibility makes it a prime target for French property investors for both residential and commercial real estate.
Areas to the north-east of the city, where the Canal de la Deule meanders through, are popular with Lille property buyers. This area takes in the districts of Lomme, Lambersart, La Madeleine, St Andre and Marcq en Baroeul, as well as the city centre of Lille itself. A one-bed studio apartment in the Lambersart district of Lille can be acquired for around 80,000 euros. At the more prestige end of the market, a quality 4-bed Lille property in the most fashionable part of Lille Centre will cost around 800,000 euros.
On the outskirts of Lille are some highly desirable areas in which to buy a prestige villa in France. Tourcoing and Halluin to the north-east of Lille are well worth consideration as is the area between Lille and Armentieres. To the south-east of Lille is more in the way of open countryside. Here, prestige French property can be found along the Belgian border and into the ancient forests near St Amand.
