The department of Indre et Loire takes in one of the most beautiful sectors of the Loire Valley. Contained within its boundary are the historic towns of Chinon and Amboise, as well as the city of Tours. Outside of these main centres or urbanisation the countryside is awe-inspiring, with forests, rivers and woodland hiding exquisite chateaux and picturesque hamlets. All in all, the Indre et Loire is the perfect area in which to look for French property if you wish to live amongst regal surroundings.
And, regal it really is. The Indre et Loire was much frequented by French royalty between the 15th and 18th centuries. Many of the grand palaces and chateaux that can be found in this area were built for the kings and their courts. The chateau of Azay le Rideau on the Indre River in the southern part of Indre et Loire, with its moat and fine renaissance style architecture, is just one of the many gems that await discovery in this area.
Indre et Loire property available for sale, as you might very well expect, is quite regal too! There is a good selection of 17th, 18th and 19th century Indre et Loire property right across the department, all at a lower price than similar French property in Brittany or in much of the Western Loire. A 4-bed 18th century stone longere near Amboise for example was recently on the market for 360,000 euros, while a 6-bed villa in France along the Cher River could be acquired for less than 450,000 euros.
