The department of Herault occupies a prime position on the Mediterranean coastline west of Marseille. It encompasses the cities of Montpellier and Beziers along the coast, as well as some breathtaking countryside that includes forests, lakes and mountains to the north. The Herault River tracks its way down through the department from the Cevennes mountain range, draining into the sea near Agde - a much sought after town in which to buy French property.
On the coastline between Agde and the eastern boundary of Herault are a series of inter-connected coastal lagoons, through which the lower part of the Canal du Rhone traverses. The colourful port town of Sete is a wonderful place in which to look for Herault property overlooking the water. There are properties here offering views across the Mediterranean, across the lagoon or across one of the waterways that run like water-filled roads through the town itself. Some Herault property on the hillside can take in views of all three areas of water!
Inland, valleys, gorges and the craggy hills of the Southern Massif Central await, along with a mass of beautiful medieval villages. A 3-bed villa in France with swimming pool near Montagnac will cost in the region of 240,000 euros, while in the pine-covered countryside around Lodeve the same price will get you a 4-bedroomed French property.
