Haute Vienne is one of the trio of departments that make up the Limousin region - the other two departments being Creuse and Correze. The department occupies a prime position in Central France on the Plateau du Limousin and is a much sought-after area for French property buyers who are looking for that inexpensive rural villa in France.
Limoges is the capital of the Haute Vienne - and of the Limousin region as a whole. With a detailed history going back more than 2000 years, the city is awash with stunning architecture, as well as examples of French property from almost every era. Away from city the landscape is an awesome collage of forests, wooded valleys, escarpments and gorges. There are also hundreds of tiny medieval hamlets spread across the region, all of which offer French property buyers with a myriad of locations in which to buy semi-rural Haute Vienne property, or find some land on which to build a dream home.
Haute Vienne property is not expensive. A 2-bed semi-detached home with large garden and a barn ripe for conversion near Limoges can be acquired for less than 120,000 euros. If you fancy a 6-bed gites complex with a separate 4-bed family home, you won't need to spend more than 500,000 euros in the Haute Vienne.
