The French Riviera covers the region of Southeast France from Toulon in the west to Monaco and the French/Italian border in the East. It is a highly sought-after region in France for luxury French property, with the notable towns of Nice, Cannes, St Tropez and St Raphael occupying prime positions along a stretch of awe-inspiring coastline.
Also known as the Cote d' Azur, the French Riviera is a true Mediterranean paradise. The area is blessed with a wonderful climate and dramatic scenery that sees rocky cliffs descend into the deep azure sea. Along parts of the coast are exclusive homes owned by the rich and famous, while a little inland among the rolling hills, quaint French villages await.
The French Riviera is serviced by two airports - one at Nice and the other at Toulon. Nice airport is the larger of the two and is frequented by many European and international airlines. EasyJet operate a budget service from the UK to Nice on a regular basis, with flights taking just over two hours from London Luton airport.
Nice itself is a city of fine architecture, great food and luxurious lifestyles. The city centre is dominated by grand buildings with pastel-coloured facades, and the exquisite Fountaine du Soleil. The shopping district includes an expansive array of boutiques, interspersed with quality restaurants, cafes and bars. Along the seafront is the Promenade des Anglais - a 7km promenade that provides spectacular views of the Cote d'Azur - and is where you will find the famous red-domed Hotel Negresco, as well as some rather exclusive French Riviera property and apartments.
Further west along the French Riviera coastline is the magnificent city of Cannes. Famous for the Cannes film festival, where the world's biggest film stars and celebrities gather every May, the city is a truly stunning place in which to own French Riviera property. Golden sandy beaches stretch around the bay at Cannes, flanked by exclusive marinas and even more exclusive yachts. The tree-lined promenade gives way to luxury apartments and villas as the city ebbs away up a gentle slope into the surrounding countryside. Naturally, Cannes is packed full of fine restaurants and provides one of the best French shopping experiences outside of Paris.
Moving south-west from Cannes along the coast road brings you into perhaps one of the most exclusive areas for French property in the French Riviera - St Raphael and St Tropez. Here, overlooking the Golfe de Frejus and the Golfe de St Tropez, is a collection of chic towns and villages where large luxurious villas hide among the trees on the hillsides.
The small towns of Agay, Frejus, Sainte Maxime and Saint Aygulf are just some of French delights that can be found here, along with St Raphael and the world-famous town and port of St Tropez. For French property buyers, this area above all others in the French Riviera, is where the dream of buying a villa in France, with views to die for over the Mediterranean Sea, can be realised.
