Frejus occupies a prime coastal position on the Cote d'Azur in the Var. It is situated in a cove close to the town of St Raphael, the two towns flowing seamlessly into each other. To either side of Frejus the mountains rise up - the Esterel Massif can be seen in the east, while the Maures Mountains are in the west. Both Frejus and St Raphael offer exceptional views of the Provence coastline down towards St Aygulf in the direction of St Tropez, and both offer French property hunters the opportunity to acquire luxury waterfront homes.
Tourists from all over the world come to Frejus each year, attracted by its wonderful seaside atmosphere and by its historic heritage. The Romans placed great emphasis on Frejus' strategic location between the two mountains. The city was founded by Julius Caesar in 49BC, and was seen as an important port location even then. Reminders of the Roman occupation can be seen in Frejus today - the amphitheatre being the most impressive of their legacy. Today, the port of Frejus is a prestigious centre for many leisure crafts.
Frejus is a much sought-after location in which to buy French property. Frejus property prices are therefore quite high compared to the more rural areas of Provence. A 2-bed villa in France in Frejus town can be purchased for around 350,000 euros. A 3-bed luxury Frejus property in a countryside location overlooking the town and the Mediterranean Sea will cost in the region of 650,000 euros to 700,000 euros.
