Finistere is the westernmost department of France. It juts out into the Atlantic Ocean as part of Brittany in Northwest France and is always a popular location in which to buy French Property. The Finistere coastline is absolutely stunning. Craggy rocks dive into the sea, separated at times by secluded coves and sandy beaches, while inland, the fields and hills are punctuated by rocky outcrops and areas of outstanding natural beauty in the Parc Regional d'Armorique. All in all, Finistere is rather reminiscent of other Celtic lands, such as Wales, Ireland and Cornwall.
Finistere property along the rugged coastline is the most sought-after type of French property in the area. Homes with a sea view command a premium, while further inland Finistere property is often less expensive. Fashionable areas in which to look for a villa in France in this department are on the Crozon Peninsula in the extreme west of Finistere and also west of Quimper towards Pointe du Raz. In the North of the department, the area around Roscoff is also popular.
If you're looking for a less tourist-oriented stretch of Finistere coastline in which to buy property, the coastal area that runs from Brest to Roscoff could yield some gems. Here, the coastline is dominated by small fishing villages. For an even more private plot, why not consider searching for property on the tranquil island of Ile D'Ouessant - mainland France's most western outpost that is accessible only by ferry.
