Epinal is the prefecture town of the Vosges department in Lorraine, Northeast France. It is a small town that straddles the Moselle River and Canal de l'Est in-between acres of unspoilt forest. Only a few miles away from the Vosges Mountains and the Ballons des Vosges Regional Park, Epinal offers a wild and untamed natural environment in which to search for rural French property - ideal if you want to buy a peaceful villa in France that is surrounded by mountains, forests and waterfalls.
Epinal is a modern city with an ancient heart. Representing the 'old' Epinal is the ruined castle that stands above the main town, as well as the 11th century Basilica - Epinal's most impressive monument. An array of fine Epinal property dating back several centuries can be seen around the old town too. 'New' Epinal's ambassador is the Musee de L'Image - a world class museum in which 30,000 'images' have been collected along with woodcarvings and other art. This has given Epinal the title of the 'City of Images'.
Epinal property is not expensive. A detached 4-bed home in the town can be acquired for as little as 150,000 euros, while a 7-bed villa in France near the village of Girmont to the north of Epinal was recently available for just 130,000 euros. In the many hamlets and villages that surround Epinal, property buyers will find a good selection of cheap French property (30,000 euros - 40,000 euros) that would make for ideal renovation projects.
