The seaside town of Dieppe is located on the North coast of France in Upper Normandy. It is a popular tourist resort amongst the French and is also much favoured by British tourists, many of whom come over by ferry from Newhaven in the South of England. With the Channel crossing taking as little as 2 hours on the Hoverspeed service from Newhaven, Dieppe has recently become a focus for British-based French property hunters too. It is not unusual for prospective buyers to catch the early morning service to Dieppe, view Dieppe property during the day, and return to Newhaven on the evening ferry service.
The attraction of Dieppe for many is the wonderful landscape that surrounds the town. White chalk cliffs tower up above the sand and shingle beaches next to the town, offering some dramatic views of the sea and the town itself. Inland from Dieppe are the Bethune and Varenne valleys with their breathtaking forest-covered hillsides.
The town of Dieppe itself has a close association with the sea. The town's seafront is dominated by the harbour in which a plethora of yachts and fishing boats can be seen. Around the harbour is a walkway backed by hotels, shops and restaurants where you can sample the local fishing catch. Dieppe property overlooking the harbour is much in demand, as is French property climbing the hillside on the outskirts of the town. Prices for a 4-bed villa in France on the outskirts of Dieppe with a sea view start at around 320,000 euros.
