Creuse is the northeasternmost department of the Limousin. It occupies a position in Central France on the northwest edge of the Massif Central, and is predominantly rural. Forested hills, valleys and mountain streams await discovery in this beautiful countryside landscape, as well as a plethora of small medieval hamlets and villages. All in all, Creuse is a popular location for French property buyers to hunt for that rural villa in France in an area known for its stunning scenery and tranquil nature.
The climate in Creuse tends to go from one extreme to the other. During the summertime it can become quite hot, with the air temperature regularly climbing to more than 30°c. In the winter, Creuse is generally cold. Frost and snow are a regular occurrence during January and February, while rainfall tends to be most frequent in the spring and autumn.
There is no international airport in Creuse itself. The nearest airports are at Limoges in Haute Vienne and at Montlucon in Allier. This means that the central area of Creuse is at least an hour's drive from either airport - a fact that is reflected in Creuse property prices. A 5-bed partly renovated farmhouse in a hamlet in Central Creuse can be acquired for around 180,000 euros. If you'd like a private lake to go with your 5-bed Creuse property and a selection of outbuildings and barn, then you'll be able to find this type of French property in Creuse for less than 450,000 euros.
