The Cote d'Or is a department in Northern Burgundy that takes in the Beaune Valley and the Canal de Bourgogne. The area has a reputation for producing some of the finest wines in the world, as well as possessing some spellbinding countryside landscapes. For buyers of French property seeking an idyllic villa in France, the Cote d'Or is the place to be.
Central and southern parts of the Cote d'Or are quite mountainous. Here, the land rises up to 2,000ft above sea level in places, but is dissected up by enormous gorges and valleys that cut through the area - one of which contains the navigable Bourgogne Canal. Several rivers originate in the mountains of the Cote d'Or, including the Seine that runs through such prestigious cities as Troyes, Paris and Rouen. The extreme eastern part of the Morvan mountain range can be found in Western Cote d'Or, as can the small town of Saulieu - a wonderful place in which to buy Cote d'Or property.
Dijon, on the banks of the Bourgogne Canal is the main city in the Cote d'Or. Its international airport provides easy access for French property hunters interested in searching for property here. Cote d'Or property in Dijon is not that cheap, but out in the Burgundy countryside, prices for rural property are extremely competitive.
