The Cote d'Azur is the stretch of coastline that runs between St Tropez and the Italian border in Southeast France. It takes in some of the most sought-after places in which to buy French property along the Mediterranean coast, and is also one of the wealthiest areas in all of France. The Cote d'Azur is served by two international airports - one at Nice and one at Toulon - so making it a highly accessible area, with most European cities being only 1 - 4 hours away by air.
The climate in the Cote d'Azur is one of the area's biggest attractions. Summers are long and hot, lasting from April well into October, while the winters are never too cold. The Cote d'Azur is also one of the sunniest places in France, with the city of Nice recording an average of more than 2,500 hours of sunshine each year.
The coastline along the Cote d'Azur is very dramatic. Stretches of sandy beach alternate with craggy volcanic outcrops, creating sheer cliffs and hidden coves all the way along the coast. A series of headlands also jut out into the sea, on which glamorous towns such as St Tropez, Antibes, Monaco and Cap Martin are situated. In the alternating bays between these headlands, St Raphael, Cannes and Nice are found.
The Cote d'Azur is without doubt the hottest location in which to buy prestige French property. Right the way along the coast the hillsides conceal private mansions, luxury villas and exquisite character properties, many with several acres of land their own private swimming pool and terraces on which wonderful views of the Mediterranean can be enjoyed. In the towns themselves, Cote d'Azur property consists mainly of apartments, the most desirable of which are those that offer a sea view.
Cote d'Azur property is available through a huge range of prices. There is little available in the area for less than 150,000 euros, while the most luxurious of villas cost well in excess of 10,000,000 euros. A typical 4-bed villa in France in a secluded spot on a hillside with swimming pool and terrace offering views over the sea will coast in the region of 1,500,000 euros.
