Brest, France's north-westernmost city, is located in the department of Finistere in Brittany. It is the capital of the department and hosts the main international airport for the region. Air France and the UK budget airline FlyBe operate regular direct services between Brest and other destinations in France and Southern England, providing easy access for prospective French property buyers from these regions.
Brest's most impressive attraction is its wonderful natural harbour. The harbour was used as a naval base during World War II, and so became a target for German bombers. Most parts of the old city of Brest were destroyed during the war, and much of what can be seen today is post-1944. The 15th century castle overlooking the harbour still stands as a dramatic reminder of Brest's past.
Brest's international air links have really opened up Western Brittany to prospective French property buyers in recent years. Some idyllic places in which to buy Brest property can be accessed within just a 30-minute drive from the airport. To the south-east of Brest City is the fabulous Parc Naturel D'Armorique, where the true beauty of Brittany's inland areas can be experienced. A little further to the south is the Crozon peninsula - currently a popular destination for Brest property buyers looking for coastal property in Brittany. North of Brest the coastline becomes more rugged and less-populated - ideal if you are looking for a secluded villa in France.
