Boulogne (Boulogne-sur-Mer) is a seaside town in Pas de Calais, Northern France. Together with Calais and Dunkerque, Boulogne makes up the trio of northern ferry ports that provide regular services across the Channel to Southeast England. The ferry crossing between Dover in England and Boulogne takes less than an hour, making the town of Boulogne popular with day-trippers and British people looking to buy French property in the area.
Boulogne is intrinsically linked with the sea. It is France's largest fishing port accounting for more than 30% of France's total fresh fish catch every year. The town has many nautical attractions too, the most impressive being the Nausicaa sea life centre, and of course the beach that runs along the front of the town.
Boulogne and its surroundings offer a vast array of beautiful locations in which to search for French property. In the town itself, Boulogne property overlooking the sea is much sought-after, especially on the south side of the town away from the busy shipping area. Prices for a 3-bed detached Boulogne property here start at around 140,000 euros.
Inland from Boulogne is the vast natural park of Caps et Marais D'Opale, in which reside many picture-postcard villages and hamlets. If you're looking for a secluded villa in France amongst rolling hills and forested valleys then this area could have potential for you!
