The town of Beauvais is situated in Southern Picardy in the department of Oise. Less than a half-hour drive from Paris, this historic town and the surrounding countryside is much favoured by Parisians seeking a countryside retreat away from the hustle and bustle of the city. There is some truly beautiful French property to be found amongst the hills and forests to the south and west of Beauvais, including exquisite half-timbered homes set upon acres of land for less than 250,000 euros.
Beauvais is well known for its cathedral, which towers above the town. It dates back to the 13th century, and is a fine example of Gothic architecture with its flying buttresses and rose window making for an awesome sight. There are many other historical points of interest in the town as well, including the Gothic church of Saint-Etienne.
Beauvais property in the town consists of apartments and townhouses. A 2-bed Beauvais property in a semi-rural setting on the northern fringes of the town was recently on the market for only 106,000 euros. On the southern outskirts of Beauvais, as the town melts into the wooded countryside, some prestige French property can be found. Following the road out of town to Gournay en Bray reveals some of the most beautiful countryside in Oise, along with some quite outstanding prestige homes. The medieval village of Gerberoy is also well worth consideration if you're looking for a luxury villa in France.
