The area of Beaujolais unfurls out across 1750km2 of hilly landscape on the northern edge of the Massif Central. It crosses three departments - Rhone, Loire and Saone et Loire - and is of course most famous for its wine. Beaujolais is an extraordinary area in which to buy French property. The area's warm climate and gentle scenery entices you to stroll through fields of vines and through beautiful green valleys. For some, nowhere else on Earth is more alluring than Beaujolais.
Beaujolais is defined on its western boundary by the Loire River and on its eastern boundary by the Saone River. The area's northern perimeter rests against the Monts du Maconnais, while its southern frontier can be found along the Monts du Lyonnais near the city of Lyon. All in all there are twelve appellations in the Beaujolais area, the biggest being in the south around the village of Bois d'Oingt.
Right across the region are small hamlets and villages in which some exquisite semi-rural Beaujolais property can be found. Up in the hills more rural French property for sale is available, including farms and vineyards set on several acres of land. Beaujolais may not be the cheapest region in which to buy rural property, but Beaujolais property owners could turn their purchase into an income stream by tapping into the thriving wine-tourism industry in the region. A villa in France with a gite or a couple of apartments to let could be ideal in this respect!
