Bastia is located on the coast in Haute Corse at the base of the north-east peninsula of Corsica. It is the prefecture of the Haute Corse region and is the main centre for tourism on the north of the island. Bastia's international airport welcomes direct flights in from all over Europe, providing easy access to the island for the thousands of visitors and French property hunters that come here every year.
Bastia is an old settlement of medieval origin - a fact that is reflected in the town's rich architecture that spans several centuries. Much less commercial than the southern airport-town of Ajaccio, Basita offers quaint fishing harbours, a yachting marina backed by a chaotic arrangement of Mediterranean townhouses and some exquisite large renaissance and neo-classical style French property. There is a dearth of modern style hotel blocks in Bastia, so enabling the town to stay close to its ancient roots.
The coastline along the peninsula to the north of Bastia is stunning. Somewhat 'softer' in appearance than the rugged cragginess of the west coast of Corsica, the shoreline here consists of a series of brush covered headlands that dip down into the water, separated by idyllic sandy coves and bays in which the odd yacht or two may be moored.
Bastia offers a grand selection of apartments, villas, chateaux, manor houses and townhouses for prospective buyers to choose from. Most of the townhouses are found in the old part of town, and include Bastia property that is need of renovation. In the more recently added districts of the town, Bastia property developments offering tasteful and luxurious villas and low-rise apartments can be found. A luxury T6 villa in France in the southern part of Bastia can be purchased for around 350,000 euros to 400,000 euros.
