Antibes is situated on a prominent headland that juts out into the Mediterranean Sea between Nice and Cannes on the Cote d'Azur. It separates the Golfe Juan from the Baie des Anges, and is a much sought-after location in which to buy French property, not least because of the town's excellent beaches and wholly Mediterranean feel.
Antibes was originally colonised by the ancient Greeks more than 2000 years ago. The Greeks named the promontory 'Antipolis' and by the 5th century BC the town was fortified. Later the Romans adopted the town, during which time Antibes became one of the most important trading ports in France. Today, the old part of Antibes is still surrounded by ramparts, while the town as a whole has grown, incorporating excellent restaurants, bars and leisure facilities.
Most Antibes property seen around the town is of typical Mediterranean style. Antibes property mainly consists of apartments and villas built in the last century, although some French property from earlier periods in the town's history can be purchased from time to time. Two-room apartments with no sea view start from around 170,000 euros in Antibes, while a provençal style 2-bed villa in France on the Cap d'Antibes can be acquired for around 750,000 euros.
