The town of Angers is situated in the Loire Valley in Western Loire. It has arisen at the juncture of four main river systems - the Loire, the Mayenne, the Sarthe and the Loir - and is the capital of the old kingdom of Anjou. With its wealth of historical architecture, Angers is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful cities in France. It is also the traditional gateway to the Loire Valley, offering an extensive selection of prestige French property through the Loire Anjou Touraine regional park.
The twin-spiralled cathedral of Saint Maurice, which dates back to the 12th century, is one of Angers most visited historic sites. Angers Castle built in the 13th century is another big draw for tourists. Contained within the castle is what is known to be the longest tapestry in the world. The tapestry is 140 metres long and tells the story of the Apocalypse.
Some magnificent French property can be found available for sale within the city itself. A 19th century 4-bedroom Angers property in the Jardin du Mail district, complete with stone staircase, was recently on the market for 472,000 euros. The La Madeleine district of the city is another attractive area in which to search for Angers property, but if you're looking for a more rural area in which to buy that dream villa in France, then the countryside around Angers is highly recommended.
