Amiens is the regional capital of Picardy in Northern France. The city is set upon the Somme River to the south-east of Abbeville and is most famous for its 13th century Gothic cathedral - The Cathédrale Notre-Dame - which is the largest Gothic structure in France. Amiens' compelling history spans right through from pre-Roman times and makes the city a firm favourite with tourists from around the globe. The city's position at the heart of Picardy also makes it a good base from which French property hunters can explore the Picardy countryside and Somme Valley.
Amiens is assured of its place in the history books. It has survived two World Wars and did host the signing of the Amiens Treaty, which brought a temporary respite to the Napoleonic Wars in 1802. The city underwent substantial rebuilding after World War II, and so consequently much of the French property available for sale in the town is of a recent construction.
The most sought-after types of Amiens property are the apartments and villas that back onto the river. In the rebuilt medieval quarter of the town prospective Amiens property buyers will find Flemish cottages, while in the surrounding countryside a plethora of small villages and hamlets await, offering you an excellent opportunity to find that dream rural villa in France.
